Some juicers just can’t seem to manage celery and would constantly get jammed.
Celery offers great health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and providing beneficial anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals. It comes as no surprise that celery juice has become a very popular health drink.
However, getting to these benefits can be quite a challenge.
Celery is infamous for being a tough, fibrous and stringy vegetable. The stringy consistency has been known to wreak havoc upon many juicers! These strong strings wrap themselves around the mechanisms of the juicer, tightly strangling the machine until it jams.
That would be a frustrating situation to be in considering the fact that juicers can cost a hefty price.
But fear not.
We’ve reviewed and identified the best juicer for celery, as well as some best practices for optimal celery juicing results.
Read on to find out which is the best celery juicer for you!
You’ll also realize that in our list of best juicers for celery, we’ve only picked the slow masticating juicers. We think that this is the best way to enjoy the full benefits of celery juice.
Compared to high speed centrifugal juicers, the slow juicers are able to keep the temperature low and oxidation to a minimal level. This ensures that the heat sensitive anti-oxidants , vitamins and enzymes are well-preserved. What you’ll get is a light and vibrant green drink with little foam, filled with natural goodness.
Best Slow Masticating Juicers for Celery
#1: Omega NC900/NC800 Juicer – Best Overall
The Omega NC900 and NC800 juicers seem to deal with celery effortlessly.
If you are lazy to cut up the celery, you can juice the entire stalk one at a time.
The Omega NC 900 and NC 800 have a larger feeding chute and mouth plate compared to other models of Omega horizontal masticating juicers. Hence it is more convenient to use as you’ll spend less time prepping the produce.
Great for Celery and Leafy Greens
When choosing the right juicer, it is also important to consider what other produce you plan to juice.
If your sole purpose of getting a slow juicer is to make celery juice, then the Omega NC900 or NC800 is the one for you as it is super easy to clean and use. They are also great for leafy greens and wheatgrass.
However, it may face challenges when juicing a single ingredient that is soft texture or low fiber, such as cucumbers. If you are using soft fruits, it is recommended that you alternate between the soft and hard produce as the hard fruit will help to push the soft fruits through.
Adjust the End Cap to Level 5 for Celery
Omega NC800/NC900 features an adjustable end cap that allow you to adjust the back pressure. The higher the back pressure, the dryer the pulp will be and the higher the yield. Different fruits will need different settings, so there is a slight learning curve to this.
For juicing celery, tighten the end cap to the highest setting, which is level 5.
Easiest to Use and Clean
The Omega NC juicers are very much fool-proof when it comes to assembly, disassembly and cleaning. The small screen area means that there’s very little that you really need to scrub.
A vertical slow juicer may require more intricacies in terms of prepping the produce and operating the juicer, whereas a horizontal masticating slow juicer like Omega NC900 is really simple to use. The only trait that you need is patience as you’ll need to slowly and gently push the ingredients down the chute to the angular.
More Than a Juicer
For many of us, all-in-one machines hold a certain allure. Who wouldn’t want an appliance in our kitchen that can handle more than one task at a time?
With he Omega NC900 and Omega NC800, you can also use frozen fruits and berries to make fruit sorbets. This is truly a gulit-free healthy frozen dessert.
It also comes with the Nutrition System accessories so you can make nut butters, nut/soy milks, baby food, grind spices and extrude pasta.
- High juice yield.
- Low juicing speed of 80 rpm.
- Larger chute and mouth plate compared to some Omega horizontal masticating juicers.
- No need to pre-cut the celery stalks.
- Easy to clean, requiring less than 2 minutes.
- Easy to assemble and dissemble.
- Multifunctional. It comes with the Nutrition System accessories so that you can also make nut butters, nut milks, extrude pasta, baby food and frozen sorbets.

How Does Omega NC900/NC800 Fare Against Other Omega Horizontal Juicers for Celery?
NC900/NC800 vs J8006
According to the manufacturing, the NC series is better than the J8006 series when it comes to juicing celery. The NC series is a little larger, has a bigger opening and is more efficient.
NC900/NC800 vs MM900HS
The MM900HDS is the same size as the J8006 series, but comes with an additional celery end cap attachment to optimize the celery juice extraction. So, the MM900HDS fares better than J8006 when it comes to maximizing the yield of celery juice. However, it is about the same as the NC series.
The MM900HDS is slightly cheaper compared to the NC series, but considering that you need a separate celery attachment and you can’t use it to make baby food, nut butters, pasta and sorbet, I’ll still go with the NC series. Also, even though the celery end cap is indeed able to squeeze out more juice from the celery, the end result also mean that the fine strainer screen is more difficult to clean as the very dry pulp is compacted very tightly.
NC900 vs NC800
NC900 and NC800 are identical in terms of design and mechanism. The only difference is the cover finishing and color.
The NC800HDS has a matte silver finish. It is cheaper compared to the NC900 as the exterior is made of plastic. On the other hand, NC900’s exterior is made of stainless steel and spots a shiny finish. The NC900 comes in a few different colors – chrome (NC900HDC), black (NC900HBK19) and red (NC900HRD19). However, the NC900 no longer has the carry handle that NC800 has, which I thought was a shame.
#2: Omega VSJ843QS Juicer – Best Vertical Juicer for Celery
Some of you may have heard of the advice that vertical juicers are not great for celery. This is true ONLY if you do not want to spend time prepping and chopping up the celery into smaller pieces.
The Omega VSJ843 Juicer works really well for making celery juice too… if you pre-cut them into small pieces of less than 1/4 inches.
Vertical juicers are pretty much self-feeding as the produce gets pulled downwards. This means that when you are using the Omega vertical slow juicers, you can be cutting the ingredients and feeding a handful of it into the chute at the same time while the juicer runs on its own.
This is unlike when you are operating the horizontal masticating juicers, where you will have to patiently push down the ingredients using the pusher while the juicer grinds.
In addition, even though the motor speed is slower at 43 rmp, the Omega VSJ843QS has a larger screen area compared to the Omega NC series so you can finish juicing in a shorter time.
Small Footprint on Your Countertop
Vertical masticating juicers are more compact and space saving compared to their horizontal peers.
If you have limited counter space, the Omega VSJ could be a better option compared to the horizontal juicers.
Highly Versatile Juicer
Just like the horizontal masticating juicers, the Omega VSJ843 can also handle celery, as well as leafy greens and wheat grass… But I have to stress that for optimal results, these ingredients NEED to be pre-cut.
The vertical slow juicer is also more versatile compared to its horizontal counterparts in terms of handling a larger variety of fruits. They are better when it comes to juicing softer texture low fiber produce such as cucumbers that would otherwise have more issues in the Omega NC800/NC900.
Some users have complained about having problems with jamming when it comes to hard produce such as carrots and apples. However, chances are that the ingredients are being fed into the juicer at a rate that is too fast for the slow juicer.
The thing about a vertical slow juicer like the Omega VSJ843 is that it can work wonderfully with a large variety of produce, but you need to prep the produce correctly and understand how it works. It’s not as simple as just throwing in the ingredients. You do have to pay attention to it, listen to the motor and adapt your technique if necessary.
Self-Cleaning Features But Larger Screen to Clean
When it comes to cleaning a slow masticating juicer, the hardest part is scrubbing the screen. The large screen in the VSJ therefore makes it more difficult to clean compared to the Omega NC800/NC900. You’ll need a firm bristle brush to give it a thorough scrub.
Thankfully, the Omega VSJ843 has a number of features that makes cleaning easier.
First of all, it is the world’s first juicer to have the Automatic Wiping System (AWS), which consists of a silicon wiper blade that clears the screen of pulp. It functions just like the wiper on our car’s windscreen. This helps to increase the juicing yield, reduce the pulp in the juice and makes the screen easier to clean later.
It also comes with a no-drip tap at the spout. I like that you can close the spot cap after you are done with juicing so you don’t have to worry about drips on your countertop or having to place a drip tray.
You can also keep the tap closed while juicing so that the juice can mix. But I would rather not do so because the pulp would be wetter. For higher juice yield, I would recommend that you keep the tap open when juicing.
BUT, the no-drip tap is super useful when it comes to auto-cleaning after you are done with juicing. Simply keep the tap shut and run the juicer with water before releasing the water. Do it 2 rounds and you will have a much easier cleanup as most of the pulp would have been removed.
More Complicated to Assemble?
Horizontal masticating juicers are very simple in design and generally easier to assemble. Vertical slow juicers does seem to be more complicated as the parts needs to be properly aligned to stack up vertically.
However, compared to the other vertical masticating juicers, Omega VSJ is easier to assemble. You don’t have to align any dots on the various pieces. Instead, you just need to make sure that the parts are aligned to the relevant holes and indentations and make sure that they lock in place.
It may appear more complicated to assemble compared to the Omega NC900 at the beginning, but you will soon get the hang of it.
- High juice yield
- Highly versatile in handling large varieties of produce
- Reverse operation for the occasional jam
- Smaller footprint
- Mess-free due to no-drip tap
- Durable materials and improved design
- Quiet operation
- More complicated to assemble compared to Omega NC, but you will soon get the hang of it.
- Need to pre cut the ingredients for optimal results.
- Speed: 43 RPM
- Wattage: 150 watts
- Voltage: 110-120V
- Weight: 11.5 Ibs
- Dimensions (WxDxH) : 15.51 x 6.97 x 15.47 inches
- Warranty: 15 years
The Omega VSJ comes with a pusher. But you really shouldn’t be using it, especially since you’ve pre-cut the celery stalks to small pieces. If you use the pusher, it is very likely that you are feeding in the produce too quickly and that could result in jams.
You probably only need the pusher when you are juicing leafy greens as that may require a gentle push.
#3: Tribest Shine Vertical Slow Juicer – Best for Budget and Travel
In the search of the best celery juicer, you might have come across the Tribest Green star pro and green star elite. Those are the top of the line juicers which are good enough for commercial juice bar.
Tribest has answered the calls for affordable juicing with this inexpensive and portable cold press juicer – the Tribest Shine Vertical Slow Juicer.
At this price point, it’s great for an entry level cold press juicer if you have not made up your mind about juicing.
It is also perfect if you are looking for a lightweight and compact juicer to bring around with you when you travel so that your juicing regime is not disrupted.
A few downsides though. Due to its small size, you do have to spend time prepping the ingredients in advance. It also has a relatively short 10 minute duty cycle. Otherwise, it’s easy to use and clean.
Highest Quality Low Cost Juicer
Even though the Tribest Shine Vertical Slow Juicer is an inexpensive slow juicer, it is well-designed, features a strong motor and is made with quality parts.
I definitely recommend the Tribest Shine over other brands in this price-range.
It comes with a 3 years warranty, which is longer than its peers, and is backed by a reputable parent company with years of experience in manufacturing commercial grade slow juicers. So, you also don’t have to worry about issues with warranty or spare parts.
The Shine Cold Press Juicer uses a 3 stage reduction gear technology to create more torque for more efficient juicing. This is not a technology that’s commonly found in juicers of this price range,
There are also some good design features, such as the outlet for the pulp is open at the top so that you can reach and pull out the pulp easily when required. Overall, there aren’t many parts that can potentially cause blockages.
Lightweight and compact
Measuring 19 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide, the Tribest Shine has a very small footprint.
This makes it a great travel juicer as it is super compact and lightweight.
Not to mention it’s relatively quiet operation.
Important tips for optimal results
It is important to remember that this is after all, not a high end model. So the parts may not be as durable or sturdy as the high end slow juices. Hence, you do have to follow instructions for optimal results and longevity of the juicer. I strongly recommend that you read the user manual first.
As the Tribest Shine is the smallest juicer on our list, you do have to cut the ingredients into smaller pieces.
You CANNOT use it for more than 10 minutes at one go. Tribest Shine has a 10 minute duty cycle. This means that you can only run it continuously for 10 minute. You then have to let it rest and cool down before using again. You can make around 1.5 qts of juice in 10 minutes.
Even though Tribest Shine comes with a pusher, you really shouldn’t be using it, just as with other vertical slow juicers. The ingredients should fall and gets pulled into the juicer by gravity.
If you are pushing the produce in, chances are that you would be doing so too fast for the juicer. And that might cause problems like jams.
- Small footprint on the countertop
- Suitable for travel as it is lightweight and compact
- Short 10 minutes duty cycle
- Small feeding chute
- Require prepping produce in advance
- Speed: 40 RPM
- Wattage: 200 watts
- Voltage: 110-120V
- Weight: 9.3 Ibs
- Dimensions (WxDxH) : 5.5 x 5.25 x 19.5 inches
- Warranty: 3 years
#4: Sana 727 Supreme Low-Speed Masticating Juicer – Best Splurge
The Sana 727 Supreme Slow juicer is like no other horizontal masticating juicers.
It is the SLOWEST and FASTEST low speed juicer for celery that you can find. It is also much more compact than typical horizontal juicers and looks really sleek.
At the heart of the Sana 727 is an innovative and unique motor that costs three times as much as typical motors. But thankfully, the juicer is priced less than that compared to its peers.
Not only does it allow for variable speed juicing, it has an unlimited run time so you don’t have to ever worry about the motor of your juicer burning out.
Sana 727’s juice yield is also higher as it features a rotating stainless steel blade at the outlet that gives the exiting pulp one final squeeze.
The Sana 727 have also incorporated a number of designs that were typically found in vertical slow juicers but missing in the horizontal juicers.
Unlimited run time
The Sana 727 supreme is Perfect if you are juicing for a large family as it has an unlimited run time. You no longer need to buy an expensive commercial juicer nor worry about the motor overheating.
Compared to Omega NC series 30 minutes run time and you have to stop the juicer to let the motor cool down.
This is possible because Sana 727 makes use of a brushless DC motor with a built-in cooling fan. This lowers the operating temperature and uses less electricity.
Variable Speeds from 40 to 120 rpm
The Sana 727 is the first low speed juicers that allows for variable speed juicing. It has a speed dial, giving you 4 settings to choose from – 40, 65, 90 and 120 rpm.
The other slow juicers in the market operate at a single speed.
Most horizontal masticating juicers operate at 80 rmp while most vertical slow juicers run at around 40-45 rmp. This makes SANA 727 the slowest slow juicer at 40 rmp and the FASTEST slow juicer at 120 rmp.
What does this mean for you?
First of all, it gives you more control. You can select the optimal juicing speed depending on the type of ingredient that you are juicing.
TIP: Low speeds are best for fibrous produce as the gentle juicing reduces foam and oxidation. High speeds are suitable for low fiber produces with high water content, such as citrus fruits.
It also means that if you are in a hurry, you can run the juicer at the highest speed setting and you can get your celery juice almost as fast as a centrifugal juicer.
BUT without the disadvantages of a centrifugal juicer, such as the foam, separation of the juice and the loss of heat sensitive nutrients.
And on days when you have more time to spare, you can use the lowest speed setting to enjoy an even higher quality celery juice.
P.S. If you try juicing celery at the different speeds. You will notice that there’s a difference in the color (and hence level of oxidation) of the celery juice.
Takes Up Less Counter Space
Sana 727 Supreme is shorter than typical horizontal juicers.
In order to make it a more compact juicer, the manufacturer has placed the motor in a vertical position and makes use of a gearing system to allow for horizontal operation.
Comes with 3 Juicing Screens
Both the fine and coarse screens are made from high quality stainless steel to give you the best quality and hygienic juice. The fine screen should be used when juicing celery as it will give you the highest yield while the coarse screen can be used when you need to juice softer fruits.
A homogenizing screen is also included for making nut butters, milks, sorbets or baby food.
Auto Reverse Operation
It is normal for juicers to have reverse operation function. But Sana 727 has gone a step further.
It is able to detect jams and automatically reverse the operation to unclog the jam.
One Button Disassembly
The Sana 727 is super easy to assemble and dissemble. To remove the parts for cleaning, simply press the unlock button and turn the juicing drum to the right.
Assembling the parts is also just as easier compared to other juicers which typically make use of either a clamp system of a locking collar. Simply attach the juicing drum to the motor base and turn to the left. The parts will automatically snap into place.
Incorporating Features from Vertical Slow Juicers
Some of the much loved features in vertical slow juicers but missing in the typical horizontal slow juicers are now adapted and incorporated into the Sana 727!
This includes a no-drip tap so you don’t have to worry about the juice dripping while you move the juice drum to the sink. It also makes for easier cleaning as you can fill the entire drum with water for.
The improved auger design features wider-spaced fins that allows Sana 727 to better self-feed some ingredients compared to the other horizontal juicers.
Sana 727 also features a dual hopper for easy feeding. There’s the standard opening for ingredients such as celery and carrots. There’s also a deep tray which is great for smaller ingredients such as berries, cherry tomatoes and leafy greens.
I find it really convenient for leafy greens as you can just put a bunch of them on the tray and slowly push it through, instead of trying to squeeze a handful of leaves into the single chute each time.
High Quality Accessories
Sana 727 Supreme is not just about the being the best juicer, it’s also about the high quality accessories.
It comes with a large oversized food-grade stainless steel cup to catch the pulp, which is great if you intend to reuse the pulp. Practicality aside, this pulp catcher is also designed to complement the juicer aesthetically.
Unlike typical plastic accessories, Sana 727 Supreme comes with a high quality Bohemian crystal glass that’s specially crafted to fit under the juicer. This is a really pretty glass that you can drink directly from. The only downside is that it only has a capacity of 500 ml, so it may not be that useful if you are juicing in bulk.
If you want to remove excess pulp from your juice, you’ll be really happy to know that Sana even included a stainless sieve that sits perfectly on top of the crystal cup.
And one final nice touch – the Sana 727 also comes with a dust cover to keep your juicer clean while not in use.
Make Your Own Cold Pressed Oil
If you are looking to make your own cold pressed oil, you can now do so easily with the Sana Oil Extractor attachment using a variety of seeds and nuts. The extractor attachment has to be purchased separately though.
The oil extractor is made of high quality stainless steel and is really easy to use and clean. The flow of oil is also faster and more steady compared to previous models such as the 707.
- Brushless DC Motor can run continuously all day

Buying a juicer is akin to investing in a lifestyle. So you will want to make sure that you are always looking for the best from your potential new device.
As a result, there are certain things that you should have in mind every time you are looking for either your first, or your next juicer. Read on below to find out some of the best things to keep in mind when on the hunt!
Juicers need to tackle a lot of problems each time you use them, from produce consistency to the size of yield.
Of course, as a result, you want to make sure that your juicer is built from high grade materials that are built to last, and able to take on a significant strain. You don’t want a juicer that’s going to break at the first sign of trouble, so make sure that you really look out for high quality juicers that are built to last.
Juicing isn’t exclusively for the gym-addicts amongst us. Every day more and more see the benefits that juicing can bring, no matter their age. As a result, you want to consider who is going to be using the machine.
Most juicers are built with safety in mind, featuring small chutes that ensure that your fingers do not get caught in the mechanism. Such machines are great for families with little children.
Other machines feature much larger feeding chutes, which allow for much larger and speedier juice yield, but could potentially be dangerous for younger users.
These such machines are best for those who will be using the machine every day, and know the inner workings of the machine well, ensuring that they don’t allow themselves to end up in danger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it Best to Juice Celery or Blend It?
Blenders and juicers are very different devices which lead to very different drinks. Smoothies, rather than extracting and separating juice from pulp, simply grinds both the juice and the pulp down to a fine consistency that resembles liquid.
This is highly beneficial as it means that the fibre-rich pulp of the fruit is consumed alongside the juices, which leads to a healthier drink. Pulps help to naturally and slowly digest the sugars contained in many fruits and vegetables.
Blenders and juicers can both operate properly with celery, but neither machine is better than the other when it comes to the ingredient, as celery naturally has an extremely low sugar content, meaning that blending is not necessary to get the most nutritional value.
Masticating Or Centrifugal?
Juicers are generally distinguished by their use of two distinct operating systems. One of these is the Masticating system, which operates by very slowly grinding and squeezing produce to carefully extract juice without damaging nutrients and other goodness.
These such machines are great for families, due to their low noise levels, and their ability to effectively extract nutrients. However, the slower operation can mean they are quite time-consuming to use.
Centrifugal systems, on the other hand, are focused on speed, with fast rotating motors that tear away at produce to quickly separate juice and pulp.
The juice is then fed through a fine mesh, to keep the juice pulp free. These are great for quick and efficient yields, but may potentially lead to lower quality yields, with lower nutrient values. These machines are better for frequent users, who make many juices per day.
